AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT Introduction

I’ll be honest. I didn’t want to do this review but here I am doing it. I got a AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT recently and wanted to write a review on this device. This is because it was a great graphics card at a very low price. So I went ahead and did the review and this time I’m not going to try and hide anything.

A few years ago, AMD made a name for itself with its Radeon HD 6000 series line of GPUs. The company’s initial release offered a radically different experience, with HD 7000-series cards featuring a new architecture and being able to offer new, unlocked features. The Radeon 8000-series offered similar performance, but introduced new features and support for DirectX 12. The Radeon 9000-series was the first to move to a 14nm FinFET manufacturing process, and the Radeon R9 cards were the first to support the new DXR API.

The AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT is the newest member of the Radeon RX 6000 series. It has the same number of compute units as the Radeon RX 6670, but it uses the newer Polaris architecture that allows for higher clock speeds (up to 1250 MHz). The GPU features 2304 Stream Processors, 224 TMUs and 32 ROPs.. Read more about amd rx 6600 xt price and let us know what you think.

Introduction

Though it has previously been announced, AMD is releasing the Radeon RX 6600 XT today. On July 29th, AMD unveiled the AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT graphics card at ChinaJoy 2021. The specs and price are revealed in the official press release; the official MSRP is $379.

The current tendency seems to be to announce first, then ship hardware. However, given today’s insane silicon scarcity environment and high costs, the availability of such hardware has been an issue. We can speak about the GPU today, August 10th, but we won’t be able to publish our complete evaluation of the add-in-board partner board we have until tomorrow, August 11th. Our standards will be revealed on August 11th.

This launch is a little different in that it is a partner-only event. This means AMD will not be releasing a made by AMD reference card this time, nor will it be sampling reference cards for review at “launch.” This is a different approach from AMD’s previous Radeon RX 6900 XT, 6800 XT, 6800, and 6700 XT models, which all had made by AMD video cards available for purchase directly on AMD’s website.

AMD was able to exert some influence on the MSRP and price charged by manufacturers as a result of this. When cards are offered directly from AMD.com, it acts as a kind of price benchmark. Manufacturers may charge whatever they like now that the Radeon RX 6600 XT isn’t available directly on AMD.com.

AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT

The AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT is targeted for a particular demographic of gamers. This video card from AMD is aimed firmly at the 1080p gaming experience. This video card is designed to run at a resolution of 1080p, not 1440p. The fact that the Infinity Cache on this 128-bit bus video card has been reduced to 32MB emphasizes this point.

As you can see from the chart above, the Radeon RX 6600 XT performs well in the 1080p range, while the Radeon RX 6700 XT delivers a decent 1440p experience. The only problem is that $379 is a lot of money in the 1080p gaming world. Historically, this has been a market that has traded for less than $300. The Radeon RX 5600 XT, for example, was released in early 2020 with a $279 MSRP and was marketed as a 1080p video card.

Performance

AMD says it’s time to upgrade from your GeForce GTX 1060 video card in terms of upgradability. Despite the fact that the GeForce GTX 1060 was launched in 2016, its MSRP was just $249. It’s strange to compare the Radeon RX 6600 XT to a 5-year-old video card; you’d think the Radeon RX 6600 XT would be quicker. So it’s a little strange to suggest five years later that it’s time to switch to a video card that’s $130 more costly. That’s a whole other pricing range.

In any case, AMD claims that the Radeon RX 6600 XT will be 2.2 to 2.5 times quicker than the GeForce GTX 1060. We certainly hope so for an extra $130. However, I’m not convinced that’s enough to warrant the price difference. AMD also says that the Radeon RX 6600 XT outperforms the Radeon RX 5600 XT by 1.4 to 1.7 times. Again, they are $100 apart in price, so I’m not sure how remarkable it is given the price difference.

Availability

The Radeon RX 6600 XT should have greater availability, and it should be available from several of the major add-in-board partners listed above, as well as significant OEMs.

AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT Introduction AMD announced the AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT today, a new upper mid-range graphics card that is based on the same GPU as the Radeon RX 5700 XT, but with a new name and a bump in the number of Compute units from 2048 to 2304. The new GPU is a part of AMD’s new Polaris family of GPUs, which are based on a new 12nm process and integrate the GPU, DisplayPort, Dual-Link DVI, HDMI, and VirtualLink ports..
