Demon’s Souls is one of those games that has a looming shadow of being a great game, but just fails to be. I like this game. I really do. I like it a lot. I think it’s got great art direction, I love the soundtrack, I have a good time with the game’s combat, and it has a certain magic. And yet it’s not a good game. There are a lot of things that I like, but doesn’t add up to a great game.

The Souls series isn’t really what I usually write about, but I was thinking about how I’d like to try my hand at a different type of article this time around. So, I did just that and decided to write about a game series that’s one of my all time favorites, but doesn’t get the attention it deserves. Demon’s Souls is a game that is challenging, so it’s not for the faint of heart. It may be difficult to hear, but the Souls series is not for everyone and it really shouldn’t be. If you’re new to the series and are thinking about giving it a shot, you need to know why it’s not for you.

REVIEW – A game with a legendary difficulty level and a unique atmosphere: The very first installment in the Japanese Souls horror game series, Demon’s Souls, was released in 2009. Now, and only on PlayStation 5, we can relive what it’s like to die in an updated version of the first instalment of Japan’s legendary next-gen role-playing series, in a revamped version of the familiar dystopian medieval fantasy setting.

Sony made a bold move by releasing the very first part of this (relatively unknown and unrated) hardcore Japanese RPG series as the only exclusive game at the PlayStation 5 launch. (Spider-Man Miles Morales and Sackboy: A Big Adventure were also released on PS4/PS4 Pro. ) The release of Demon’s Souls in 2009 created an entire genre: Games like Souls, which are extremely dark and sinister RPGs with a slight horror element, designed specifically for masochistic and hardcore gamers. These games are designed to test your patience and nerves. It takes true Japanese self-control and the patience of a samurai to pass the test.

Demon’s Souls has an immersive, dark fantasy atmosphere, beautiful graphics that will captivate those who can turn a blind eye to the intentionally unfair rules, often repetitive gameplay and the patience of a Buddhist monk. This is clearly a hardcore game for hardcore players…..
