Destiny 2 Cross Play: Everything You Need To Know

With the launch of Destiny 2, players will be able to play the game on PS4, XboxOne and PC. As of this writing, the PC version of the game does not support cross-play between the different platforms. Instead, if you buy the game on PC, you will play it on your platform of choice. If you buy the expansion pass, you will be able to play the game with your friends on the other platforms.

Destiny 2 is only a couple of weeks away, so it’s a good time to recap on what we know about its cross-play implementation. Although the game itself will not be available physically on any other platform, we already know that you’ll be able to play with your friends who own different consoles. Although this feature has been promised for a while, we now have a firm date: Sunday, September 8th.

Crossplay is a gaming term that refers to a form of multiplayer where players on different devices can interact with each other via the same game. This usually means that one player can play the character while another plays as another character. Right now, crossplay is possible between the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and mobile platforms, but the only way to play with friends on other platforms is via the same console. That’s slowly changing, with Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo announcing plans to implement crossplay in future games.. Read more about destiny 2 cross platform 2021 and let us know what you think.

Bungie first announced cross-play for Destiny 2 at the Beyond Light announcement event in 2020. It’s been a year, and we’ve finally gotten some fresh information on how gamers will be able to play Destiny 2 with their pals on different platforms. This tutorial will cover everything from the Guardian’s identity to console text chat, as well as cross-play and features that will be released later in Destiny 2’s 15th season.

When will Cross Play be available in Destiny 2?

In Destiny 2, Bungie will officially introduce Cross-Platform Play across PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia in Season 15. This implies PlayStation gamers will be able to play with their Xbox Live or PC/Stadia pals.

Cross-Platform Features and a Release Date

Bungie will release new features in Destiny 2 in Season 15, as well as cross-play. These features will be unveiled during Season 15, leading up to the release of The Witch Queen expansion. Let’s get started!

The Identity of the Guardian

The first is Guardian’s Identity. In basic words, Bungie will give your Guardian a new name that will be the same across all platforms where you play Destiny 2. Early in Destiny 2’s 15th season, this feature will be released. The following are the components of your Guardian’s identity:

  • PlayerName#1234 is the “Bungie Name.”
  • PlayerName (just the first component – no numeric ID) is the “display name.”
  • # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # #
  • 1234 is the “Numeric ID.”

With that in mind, here’s how you’ll be able to assign your Guardian’s Identity in Destiny 2 once cross-play is enabled:

  1. Sign in with the name you wish to retain on the platform.
  2. Bungie will change the ID of the platform to Bungie Name.
  3. That is all there is to it.

Bungie has previously announced that in the winter of Season 15, users will be able to alter their Guardian’s name.

Sniper Rifles and Hand Cannons are no longer allowed in your IDs.

Bungie is also adding a new feature to Guardian’s Identity that will enable players to filter any symbols or characters that aren’t accessible in the player search box on consoles. “This implies that some of the extra character sets we’ve allowed for player names on Steam will no longer work,” stated Gafner, Bungie’s Community Manager. Early in the 15th season, this will also be released.

Players using these symbols/characters or objectionable words in their IDs should alter them immediately, since you won’t be allowed to do so until late in the winter of 2021.

Friendships in Crossplay

Bungie is merging all of your current friends’ rosters and renaming it Bungie Friends with the introduction of cross play. You’ll be able to add pals from your PC/Xbox/Stadia consoles to your PlayStation 4/5 consoles, and vice versa. According to Bungie, there are three methods for adding people to your Bungie Friends list:

  • Log into Destiny 2 on the device where you’d want to convert platform buddies to Bungie Friends, and then send requests via our Roster panel.
  • Use the player search on the Invite screen to find your pals.
  • Use the friends finder to connect all of your platforms and then send Bungie Friends invitations to everyone you know.

Invites from inside the game

Gamers may now use their Guardian ID to invite other players from other platforms. To do so, go to the Roster screen and choose the mail symbol on the left side of the screen. This will take you to the “Invite” portion of the page.

You may check whether you have any outstanding invitations from other players or if you wish to invite new people to join your Fireteam on this page. To do so, just use the search box to enter their in-game ID. Bungie, this is a fantastic addition!

In addition, Bungie has included a new Fireteam Privacy panel, which you can see below:

Pools for Matchmaking

With the release of cross play in Destiny 2, there is a distinct matching pool for PvP players. This will prevent console gamers from being matched with PC players in Destiny 2’s PvP mode. For Destiny 2 PvP crossplay, the matchmaking pool is as follows:

  • PC gamers will compete against other PC gamers.
  • Console gamers will compete against one other as well as Stadia players.
  • In the PC pool, console fireteams with any PC players will be matched.

There is no matching pool in PvE, and all players (consoles and PC) will be paired in the same instance.

Chat through voice and text

Bungie will provide voice chat across platforms shortly after the introduction of Cross Play in Destiny 2. Bungie will also allow text chat for console gamers for the first time. Players on consoles will be able to write in-game text and communicate with their pals using the USB Keyboard.

However, bear in mind that the keyboard will only allow you to write text and will not allow you to manage your character.

Windows should now be released.

So, that’s pretty much all for Destiny 2’s Cross Play. Here’s a rundown of everything that’s coming with Cross Play in Destiny 2 and when it’ll be available:

  • Early in the Season 15
    • Bungie’s Nickname and Bungie’s Pals
    • Multiplayer, Cross-Platform Invites, and Matchmaking
    • Social Privacy and Player Search
  • Cross Platform Voice Chat soon after debut
  • Winter
    • Bungie Changes Its Name
    • On consoles, text chat is shown.
    • Consoles accept text input through USB keyboards.

Because the original Destiny 2 game was not fully cross-play enabled, some gamers have been asking for this feature to be added. However, Bungie has been very clear that this is not something they are ever going to add. The reason for the lack of cross-play is that it would ruin the game for a large portion of players, due to the lack of communication between players on different platforms..
