As 2018 comes to a close, we at Battle of Banners would like to take a moment to thank everyone for riding with us as we continue our incredible journey. We created a website for our community that is completely free and dedicated to gaming news. For those of you who are unaware, the battle of banners is the annual competition between two gaming blogs, in which the objective is to recruit as many readers as possible in a single day. The blogs write comments under a common banner and readers can vote for the comment that they like most.

Many analysts thought video game sales would slow in 2021 after extraordinary buying due to last year’s pandemic, but so far the sector has continued to excel and surprise. Nintendo had 7 of the top 20 best-selling games in June 2021, and since digital sales are not recorded, this is not a bad result! Market status

In June 2021, consumer spending on video game hardware, content and accessories increased 5% y-o-y to $4.9 billion. Consumer spending was $28.9 billion in the first half of 2021, up % compared to the same period in 2020.

Computer hardware drove growth in June. Sales of dollar hardware increased 112% y-o-y, with sales of PlayStation, Switch and Xbox consoles increasing.

Equipment

Dollar sales of video game equipment increased 112% in June to $401 million, the highest figure for the month since 2008 ($617 million). During the year, consumer spending on equipment increased 45% to $2.3 billion compared to the first half of 2020.

TheXbox series was the best-selling hardware platform in dollars in June, while the Nintendo Switch series was the best-selling in units.

June sales of Xbox consoles in dollars were a new record for the Xboxplatform, surpassing the previous record set in June 2011.

The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling hardware platform in the first half of 2021, both in dollars and units.

The PlayStation 5 remains the fastest selling console hardware platform in US history (8-month market sales, excluding handhelds).

Accessories

In June 2021, spending on video game accessories declined 1% y-o-y to $207 million. Accessory sales reached $1.2 billion in the first half of the year, up 14% from the same period in 2020.

Sony’s DualSense Midnight Black wireless controller was the best-selling accessory in June 2021, while the DualSense White wireless controller dominated sales in the first half of the year. Three of the top four accessories sold in June were DualSense wireless controllers.
