Starbase plans to amend its stance on stream sniping citing language that is ‘too encouraging’

The Starbase team has announced that they will be amending their stance on stream sniping, citing language in the ToS that is ‘too encouraging’. The team says they want to make sure that streamers are getting a fair deal and not being taken advantage of.

We’re not sure what Starbase developer Frozenbyte expected to happen when the game’s griefing policies explicitly stated that “stream sniping is allowed,” but there’s been enough of a whirlwind reaping that the devs admitted on Twitter that the policy was “currently too encouraging” to the behavior, prompting an upcoming amendment to the policy.

“The present wording on stream sniping is too encouraging, and we’ll change it to properly reflect our views. Harassment is and has always been illegal, and it covers a lot of these situations. When it comes to harassment and griefing, our main goal will be to treat all players fairly. However, simply banning stream sniping would be difficult to police and may lead to readily exploited situations. We don’t like it, and we don’t condone it, but we don’t have many instruments at our disposal to aggressively prohibit it.”

Players who are experiencing griefing of any sort are encouraged to utilize the in-game reporting feature, contact the developers through Twitter, Discord, or email, or seek the protection of player groups or factions. If you’re a streamer, know that Frozenbyte is at the very least going to wag a finger at stream snipers.
