The Repopulation says it’s been ‘quite the adventure’ as it gives a fall development roadmap

The Repopulation is a survival sandbox MMO that lets players take on the role of a human trying to survive after an apocalyptic event. It’s been in development for over three years, and it’s finally ready to enter Early Access this fall.

Many people may have written off The Repopulation, a sandbox MMO, a long time ago (particularly when it changed ownership), but that judgment may have been premature. The present owners seem committed to improve the game by taking what they’ve been given and steering it in the direction of their vision.

“It’s been quite an adventure, but integrating in the new design into the game while maintaining the original concept and aesthetic has been a lot of fun,” the team stated.

To wit, the team presented a report on the progress made in the previous two months — as well as what is still to come. According to the source, the redesign of the complicated item system is approximately halfway complete, and a graphical update to the user interface is being tested on the development server. Rolling out the new GUI, minor improvements, enhancing NPC animations, and eventually bringing the complete item system online are all coming in the next several months.

The Repopulation was Kickstarted twice for approximately $230,000 and released on Steam early access in 2014, where it has remained ever since, with the exception of the year it was completely offline due to the HeroEngine dispute, which ultimately saw Idea Fabrik take it over in 2017.
