Among the extremely specialized min/max classes available in Dark Souls 3, the Herald is a Jack of All Trades.

The Herald, as one of the ten beginning classes, foregoes the usual emphasis on pure fighting in favor of a good mix of melee prowess and a dip into Faith to provide healing.

This makes it a viable choice for newcomers to SoulsBorne. Early access to healing allows players more errors, making Dark Souls 3’s early stages much more forgiving.

The unique characteristics of the class may be used by both veterans and newcomers, which is why we’ve put up the best beginner’s guide to the Herald in Dark Souls 3.

In Dark Souls 3, how can you get Herald?

svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciIHZpZXdCb3g9IjAgMCAyMDQ4IDExNTIiIHdpZHRoPSIyMDQ4IiBoZWlnaHQ9IjExNTIiIGRhdGEtdT0iaHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZnYW1ldm95YWdlcnMuY29tJTJGd3AtY29udGVudCUyRnVwbG9hZHMlMkYyMDIxJTJGMDclMkYyNTgxMDctMjA0OHgxMTUyLmpwZyIgZGF0YS13PSIyMDQ4IiBkYXRhLWg9IjExNTIiIGRhdGEtYmlwPSIiPjwvc3ZnPg==

The Herald is one of Dark Souls 3’s ten beginning classes, as we just stated. In other words, you receive it right away—no trials or sufferings required.

While this means you won’t be able to change your mind and unlock it later, it does contribute to the ease of access that the Herald class is known for.

It’s worth noting that the Herald, like every other class in DS3, is more of a jump-start than a defined position. You have the option of choosing the Herald and speccing into any stats you desire.

Heraldry Combat That Works

Almost every other beginning class in the game is much more forgiving than the Herald. This is due in large part to your beginning equipment, which, in turn, determines your play style.

In his on/off hands, the Herald holds a Spear and a Kite Shield. Both of these options reveal how FromSoft intends for you to play the Herald. It’s meant to keep you as safe as possible without turning you into a ranged class.

The Spear is a melee weapon with the range required for forgiving one-on-one fighting. When combined with the Kite Shield, taking damage with this class becomes a rare occurrence when compared to the Knight.

The Herald begins with Heal Aid in addition to Shied and Spear. So, if you do happen to suffer any damage, you’ll be able to recover it quickly. You won’t even be interrupted by enemy assaults while healing up since you started with the Talismen.

With that stated, your Herald playstyle should be self-evident — take use of your improved durability while still doing damage with long-reach weaponry.

As your Herald progresses towards the late game, you may begin to specialize your overall playstyle, concentrating more on Faith for greater healing or choosing for a tank/damage-dealing hybrid.

Regardless of whatever path you choose, your basic battle approach should stay the same – maintain your distance when necessary, utilize your shield and healing to absorb damage, and generally be a tough to remove player.

Of course, this does not imply that you should attempt to take Damage. When necessary, make good use of your dodge and roll. When compared to some of the squishier builds out there, you have more choices for survival.

Steps to Take

There are a few things you should do if you want to get the most out of your Herald Build. Regardless matter the kind of Herald you want to operate, this is very much the same:

  1. Make a decision on whether or not you want to continue using a Spear. Later in the game, this will influence the weapons you pursue.
  2. Then swap out your Spear with a new one. The first Spear has a modest damage output and scales poorly. During the early game, swap to a Claymore or a Lothric Spear.
  3. Choose from three weapon builds: Strength, Dexterity, or Quality.
  4. Get your hands on Force or Tears are being caressed. to give your spells more flexibility.
  5. Healing Aid only restores 13 percent of your initial health. As soon as possible, get a more powerful heal.
  6. The Herald can use the Astora Straight Sword right now, so acquire it as quickly as possible from the High Wall of Lothric.

Because the Herald is a “Jack of All Trades,” there aren’t as many particular stages as there are with other, more specialized professions.

Rather, the emphasis is on broad enhancements that will let you to grow your Damage and usefulness into the late game. Because of the Spear’s poor damage, you should change out your weapons often.

The Best Herald Structures

Let’s take a look at some pre-built Herald configurations to get some ideas for your own constructions.

Paladin of Lightning

By no means is the Lightning Paladin build a Herald-only build. It does, however, enable you to convert into a buff-centric damage dealer by taking use of the Herald’s initial Faith boosts.

You’re trading survivability in favor of inflicting greater raw damage with this build. If that’s not your style of play, the Lightning Paladin may not be right for you.

Attributes

  • DEX – 35, DEX – 35, DEX – 35, DE For this build, we’re concentrating on DEX-scaling weapons, thus strong Dexterity is a necessity for Damage.
  • FTH – 35, FTH – 35, FTH – 35, F Faith-scaling boosts are responsible for a large portion of this build’s damage. As a result, a high FTH is required.

We don’t want to spend levels pushing Faith or Dexterity over the soft limit of 40. This construct makes use of two rings that give us a +5 to DEX and +5 to FTH, which is why we naturally level it to 35 rather than climbing all the way up to 40.

You might consider placing the remainder of your points into Vigor to give you extra health to work with. Given that we’re foregoing the Herald’s inherent survivability for this build, having a big health pool may assist compensate for the loss.

It’s also a good idea to spec into Endurance for extra stamina. Up to 30 percent of your investment should be divided between Vigor and Endurance, but the choice is entirely yours.

Armor and Equipment

  • Chloranthy Ring is a kind of chloranthy.
  • The Ring of the Hunter.
  • Ring of the Priestess

Two of our three rings are there to offer us ten extra points to work with while we’re leveling, as stated above.

The Hunter’s Ring and the Priestess Ring, in particular. Both of these rings provide us stat boosts of +5 to Dex and +5 to Faith.

The Cholranthy Ring, on the other hand, is not a stat-buffing ring. We’re jogging this ring instead to improve our stamina recovery.

The Cholranthy ring pairs well with our chosen shield, the Grass Crest Shield. The Grass Crest Shield also improves our stamina recovery and is an excellent upgrade for the Kite Shield we start with.

Your armor has no bearing on this build, as it does with any other Dark Souls build. You may wear any armor you choose as long as you maintain your load below 70% and your mobility isn’t hampered.

We’re using the Straight Sword of the Sunlight and the Sharp Chartus Sword as our weapons. Both of these weapons are DEX-scaling powerhouses that will get you through to the finish. You may switch them out for other Dexterity weapons if you wish, but it’s not a good idea, particularly because the Sunlight Straight Sword has an L2 buff built in.

The Saint’s Talismen, our last left-handed weapon, is used to perform a range of Faith-related benefits.

Spells and Miracles

  • Deep Security.
  • Blade of Lightning

On this build, we’re keeping our Attunement low, so we only have two slots to play with. If you’re developing for SL120, you could go up to three buffs, but otherwise, this two are more than enough.

The Sharp Chartus Sword will be our main weapon for assaulting.

It has a higher damage output than the Sunlight Straight Sword, which we solely use for the damage absorption boost. That boost combines with Exceptional Defense to provide us with a lot of survivability, while Blade of Lightning provides us with all the damage we need.

You’ll want to maintain all of those additional effects active at all times if you’re using a buff-centric build. Do not engage in a battle without them.

PvP Build for Herald

svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciIHZpZXdCb3g9IjAgMCAyMDQ4IDExNTIiIHdpZHRoPSIyMDQ4IiBoZWlnaHQ9IjExNTIiIGRhdGEtdT0iaHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZnYW1ldm95YWdlcnMuY29tJTJGd3AtY29udGVudCUyRnVwbG9hZHMlMkYyMDIxJTJGMDclMkZraWxuLW9mLXRoZS1maXJzdC1mbGFtZS1kYXJrLXNvdWxzLXdhbGxwYXBlci0yMDQ4eDExNTIuanBnIiBkYXRhLXc9IjIwNDgiIGRhdGEtaD0iMTE1MiIgZGF0YS1iaXA9IiI+PC9zdmc+

The Lightning Paladin may be utilized for both PvE and PvP, but this Herald Great Sword build is only for PvP.

This isn’t the build for those of you who aren’t interested in player vs player. You may try running it in PvE, but you won’t get the same results as if you used a different, more concentrated build.

Attributes

  • STR – 40 and above. We want to put as many points into STR as possible since our main weapon will scale with it.
  • 18. DEX – To utilize the Heavy-infused Greatsword, we’ll need at least this. Do not exceed the age of 18.

Because strength is our primary emphasis in terms of metrics, feel free to raise it above the 40 soft limits.

Apart from that, a 30/30 split between vigor and endurance, as well as a little investment in vitality, is suggested to fill out our stat distribution.

Armor and Equipment

  • The ring of life.
  • Favorite Ring
  • Chloranthy Ring is a kind of chloranthy.

Our ring selections aren’t very opulent. Instead, we’ll concentrate on improving our general health and stamina in order to survive some of the more difficult and long PvP battles.

Our maximum HP will be increased thanks to the Life Ring. Because the more health you have, the more blows you can take, securing HP is critical.

The Ring of Favor boosts our HP and Stamina while also increasing our Equip Load somewhat.

Finally, we’ve previously discussed the Chloranthy Ring and the stamina recovery boost it provides.

As is customary, the kind of armor you choose doesn’t matter all that much. Although min/maxing is much more important in PvP than in PvE, it’s worth thinking about what you want to utilize.

The Heavy Curved Greatsword of Harald is the weapon of choice for this setup. This is a non-negotiable since our whole setup revolves on this weapon.

This item can three-shot a number of popular PvP setups when combined with a Charcoal Pine Resin.

While getting accustomed to the Greatsword’s move set and Weapon Art may take some time, mastering it will transform you into a PvP powerhouse.

300 Best Herald Miracles

svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciIHZpZXdCb3g9IjAgMCAyMDQ4IDExNTIiIHdpZHRoPSIyMDQ4IiBoZWlnaHQ9IjExNTIiIGRhdGEtdT0iaHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZnYW1ldm95YWdlcnMuY29tJTJGd3AtY29udGVudCUyRnVwbG9hZHMlMkYyMDIxJTJGMDclMkZuSkZZUnYtMjA0OHgxMTUyLmpwZyIgZGF0YS13PSIyMDQ4IiBkYXRhLWg9IjExNTIiIGRhdGEtYmlwPSIiPjwvc3ZnPg==

For the Herald, that’s about all there is to look into. It’s a class that provides a variety of early-game advantages while not limiting you to a single style of play.

We’ll go through some of the finest general Miracles and weaponry for the class so you have the resources you need to create your own Herald that differs from the two we’ve given.

Deep Protection

Deep Protection is a flexible Miracle that provides a variety of survivability benefits to assist players remain alive longer no matter what build they choose.

The following are some of the advantages of Deep Protection:

  • Players get 5 absorption.
  • Your Resistances will be increased by 20.
  • Stamina Regenerates at a rate of 3 per second.
  • Increases the damage of all weapons by 5%.

We use it on our Lightning Paladin build since the extra weapon damage is a great bonus. Overall, you’ll want to use it for the multitude of defensive advantages it provides.

Lightning Blade

Lightning Blade is a 60-second buff that grants Spellbuff*0.95 lightning damage. The Lightning Clutch Ring boosts the buff’s damage by 15%, making it a great choice for the Lightning Paladin build.

Because of the Herald’s initial lack of damage, Lightning Blade is an excellent choice. While the Spear has a high survival rate, it struggles to put up numbers as the game progresses.

Switching from the Spear while simultaneously running damage-buffing Miracles may assist with late-game scaling problems.

Force

Don’t be fooled by the fact that Force is a beginning Miracle for the Cleric. This is a powerful survival skill that, if used correctly, may save your life.

Force is a utility Miracle that does not provide you with a boost or do damage. It pushes opponents near to you away and staggers adversaries at a distance.

While it isn’t strong enough to be the foundation of your build, it is a great third slot alternative if you can’t decide.

Caressing Tears

Caressing Tears is a versatile Miracle that belongs in every Faith build, independent of class.

Its function is straightforward: it removes Bleed, Poison, Toxic, and Frostbite from the player. It’s a universal cure-all that comes in useful no matter where you are or what you’re up against.

It’s for this reason that we haven’t included it in our builds – it’s too broad. It’s a fantastic choice if you want a third Miracle slot, but there are other alternatives that provide more potent effects, such as Force.

Regardless, it’s a miracle worth remembering whenever you build for Faith, whether with a Herald, Cleric, or anything else.

Heraldry’s Best Weapons

svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciIHZpZXdCb3g9IjAgMCAyMDQ4IDExNTIiIHdpZHRoPSIyMDQ4IiBoZWlnaHQ9IjExNTIiIGRhdGEtdT0iaHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZnYW1ldm95YWdlcnMuY29tJTJGd3AtY29udGVudCUyRnVwbG9hZHMlMkYyMDIxJTJGMDclMkZQUzRXYWxscGFwZXJzLmNvbV9kYXJrLXNvdWxzLTMtMzg0MHgyMTYwLTEtMjA0OHgxMTUyLmpwZyIgZGF0YS13PSIyMDQ4IiBkYXRhLWg9IjExNTIiIGRhdGEtYmlwPSIiPjwvc3ZnPg==

Dexterity and Strength are not valued by the Herald. This makes it simple to spec into either stat without fear of missing out on the stat’s max/min potential.

Straight Sword Astoria

The Herald enables players to wield the Astora Straight Sword right away without having to increase any of its stats. As a result, it’s an excellent early-game weapon that can do damage in both PvP and PvE.

While you’ll eventually replace it with more powerful weapons, it may help you get past some of Dark Souls 3’s more tough early confrontations.

Sunlight Straight Sword

With the Sunlight Straight Sword, you won’t be able to strike anything. Instead, it’s a fantastic extra boost to build on top of your main weapon of choice. We added it in our Lightning Paladin build because of this. This weapon is more akin to a miracle than a sword.

Harald Curved Greatsword

The Harald Curved Greatsword is a fantastic weapon for everyone, not only Heralds. If you can adapt to its unique move set and Weapon Art, it can be a PvP powerhouse.

We’re also utilizing it as the sole STR-scaling weapon in either of our builds. That’s because, despite its high damage output, it’s a sluggish weapon.

Slower weapons are less accessible than weapons with higher Dexterity, making them less beginner-friendly.

If you’re feeling bold, or if you’ve previously mastered DS3, it’s a great powerful weapon that plays differently than other DEX builds.
